The site is dedicated to bar culture. It’s a vibrant hub for bartenders, cocktail enthusiasts, and industry professionals, offering deep dives into spirits, cocktail recipes, bar trends, and the people shaping the scene.
Founded in 2003, Mixology has grown from a niche magazine into a full-fledged platform. The site also hosts the prestigious Mixology Bar Awards—often dubbed the “Oscars of the bar world”—and organizes the Made in GSA Competition, a cocktail contest spotlighting regional ingredients.
In short, it’s where the art of the drink meets storytelling, innovation, and community. Want to explore the latest in cocktail culture or discover standout bars across Europe? That’s their jam.
In 2024, the Meininger Online Team migrated the site to the Drupal platform—and I had the pleasure of helping build it. I consulted on data migration challenges, contributed to site building and some light module development, but foremost I did all the theming—the look and feel of the site.
A brilliant designer crafted an amazing layout, and I was tasked to bring it to life as a living, breathing website, all about—how fun—cocktails. The vibrant design features dynamic sections that break the mold, with unique layouts for cocktails, bars, and job listings, each requiring its own different look. And of course, everything needed to be fully responsive.
All in all, this was a demanding but immensely rewarding project. The end result is something I —along with the Meininger team — takes pride in.
