OstSeeTiere was a research prototype developed for the “Deutsche Meeresmusem” (the Ocean Museum Germany), focusing on tracking and displaying sightings of marine animals such as whales and seals.

An existing public-facing application allowed individuals to report these sightings, with the collected data intended for scientific analysis.

However, the original application had become outdated, prompting plans to migrate the system to a newer and modern Drupal platform.

The prototype was nearly complete: it supported various filtering options and displays using Marine Maps, and featured an extensive input form allowing users to log detailed information about each sighting—including animal type, location, weather conditions, and other relevant variables to support scientific evaluation.

Unfortunately, the lead scientist left the project before it reached full implementation. As a result, the prototype never progressed beyond its preliminary state.

I would have loved to see the project come to life, as it held great promise and scientific value
